The XR4Register Profile - David Ashmore

Ford Sierra XR4x4 2.9

The car was born in January 1989, a 2.9 V6 engine LTRONICS fuel injection, ABS and a heated front screen. It's one of only 9 made to this unique specification during Sept-Dec 88 with; light grey trim, 6 ratio speakers and it is also one of the very first painted in Radiant Red. The change over from Rosso Red to Rediant Red was in January 1989.

We have owned the car for 8 years. We have done 120,00 miles to date. The engine and drive train are all orginal and associated parrts are only replaced when worn out, that's if one can get the parts!. We had an XR2 at the time but brought the Sierra, as she looked outstanding in comparision. 7 years of work had resulted in what you see now.

I did not intend to show her but some said it looked too good not to!. I have owned both XR and RS (XR2 and RS1600I) so to me a sports car was a 2 door, bucket seats, light and fast. After weeks and months of work, the car was in very nice condition. The experience gained showing the XR2 paid dividends.

Putting a V6 engine and 4WD together is mind blowing, but I find this more intense just by working on it. Believe me, I get no end of visitors at shows asking what is so special about a Sierra!. However, you look at it this way; it is an XR4x4 in a Sierra body shell!

I do not think I am on my own in loving these magnificent cars - the XR4 Register shows this.
